Ham & Eggs - Lewisville, Texas

If you have heard of Ham & Eggs in Lewisville, you know this old cafe's claim to fame is obscenely large portion sizes. So if your hungry this is the place to be! If you are not interested in the novelty of seeing a pancake bigger then your head or a biscuit bigger then a softball this is still a good place for a cup of coffee with the Lewisville locals.

Featured in D Magazine's 2010 Best Breakfast List and the winner of the Best Breakfast in Lewisville, Ham & Eggs is revered for the portion size of their biscuits and gravy and buttermilk pancakes, but offers a full menu of hearty breakfast options. Fitting the traditional stereotype of a greasy spoon, Ham & Eggs is a small, brunch only cafe that has been tucked away in a small shopping center in west Lewisville with apparently little to no change since its early beginnings. It is clear that the patrons of Ham & Eggs are hungry and there for no other reason but to eat

During our visit to Ham & Eggs we were limited on stomach space to only have sampled breakfast tacos, biscuits and gravy, a buttermilk pancake, and coffee. It was nice to see they offered a choice of ham, sausage, or plain country gravy. The food came out hot and fast, and the portion sizes were really ridiculous. Although a great value, the shear size of the food made it hard to enjoy. The biscuits were stale around the hard brown edges, but still great in the middle. The sausage breakfast tacos were average in size, served on two 8" tortillas, and fairly good. The chunky homestyle potatoes were fresh, but lightly seasoned if any. The famous buttermilk pancake was good, but more like a cake. Hanging over the edge of the plate and as thick as a phone book, the buttermilk pancake was fluffy and sweet. It was a great compliment for the hot cup of coffee and definitely the main attraction!

The staff was friendly and offered average service for this type of place. The restaurant appeared to be clean and organized enough. The prices are very reasonable for what you get and worth the novelty of it all. Serving only brunch, Ham and Eggs has kept things simple and stuck the basics of wowing people with food. Overall Ham & Eggs probably won't be making it on the 2012, DFW BREAKFAST.com's Best Breakfast list, but it is definitely worthy of honorable mention. Check it out and tell us what you think!
